Industrial Hygiene

The health and safety of workers occupying the industrial and manufacturing environment has been a primary concern of the Argus Environmental staff for nearly thirty years. Industrial hygiene focuses on the analysis of different industrial and manufacturing processes for potential worker exposures to a variety of environmental hazards that include respiratory contaminants, dermal exposures, noise, and ergonomics.

Argus Environmental’s industrial hygiene evaluations start with a comprehensive hazard assessment of the various industrial and manufacturing processes within a client’s commercial operation. Once hazards have been defined, a risk assessment is completed based upon the specific components involved with the process and the real time operational procedures in place. If the risk for worker exposure to an environmental hazard is sufficient, a comprehensive exposure assessment plan is drafted. Coordination with human relations, safety, and operations team members is critical in order to define current risk and the potential for worker exposure.

Exposure assessments for workers in the occupational environment generally comply with procedures and guidelines established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). For those clients involved in OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program, it is important to establish and maintain a data base of workers’ exposures. This can only be accomplished by conducting an appropriate sampling protocol for the exposure hazard(s). Once data is returned, corrective response actions, if any, are outlined as necessary and provided to the client.

Argus Environmental’s experienced staff then works together with your operations and management teams to help seamlessly introduce new control measures, equipment modifications, or process changes in the most cost effective and efficient manner possible. Once the response actions have been completed, a final assessment of workers’ exposures is conducted in order to verify the effectiveness of the solution.
